Rising Sun, Ind.(USA), is the first stop in a Verdin Co. project to create bell towers honoring U.S. veterans.
The Ohio County town, on April 4-5, will help Verdin's "bell foundry on wheels" cast the bronze bell for its tower, according to a news release. About 900 Rising Sun students will help load bronze ingots into the foundry's furnace.
Cincinnati-based Verdin announced last fall that it was beginning new campaign to build memorial bell towers in 100 U.S. cities.
If all goes as planned, the Verdin Co. would generate $25 million in revenue from the new initiative - donating $2.5 million to a Washington, D.C.-based Commission on the Future of America's Veterans, a nonprofit that is developing a new strategic plan for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Verdin, a family-owned bell and carillon company headquartered in Over-the-Rhine, was founded in 1842.
