Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has won an order to modernize Qatar Steel's steelworks in Mesaieed.
The project's objectives are to expand billets production capacity by up to 30% while at the same time reducing specific consumption values and waste gas emissions. Siemens is supplying 95 t electric arc furnace, 95 t ladle furnace, 5 strand continuous billet casting plant and the associated ancillary equipment.
A new dedusting plant is also being installed in the works which will considerably reduce emissions from steel production. The scope of supply is rounded off by a system for charging the electric arc furnaces with DRI and alloying facilities. The modernized plant is scheduled to start production in the middle of 2012.
