US - NewGen Consortium Ready to Fund Projects, Issues Second Call for Proposals

Reading time: min

The NewGen Sand Casting Consortium has secured funding for research and development projects relating to sand casting and chemically bonded core and mold technologies. White papers have been received and consortium members will begin selecting research project proposals at their second meeting on Oct. 6 at AFS headquarters. In addition, a second call for project proposals has been issued. The project proposals should be focused on improving sand casting technology, as well as topics that will facilitate better control of green sand system control, real-time sand property measurement and computer modeling programs for sand systems.

The group, co-sponsored by AFS and the National Industrial Sand Association (NISA), Washington, D.C., also is accepting new members. Currently the group has 12, all of which are AFS corporate members.

NewGen is a research consortium that will develop, fund and manage sand casting research. The group will focus on developing new sand-casting technology to produce castings with thinner walls, greater dimensional stability and accuracy, reduction in variability and improved repeatability.

For more information, to become a member of the NewGen consortium or to submit a white paper, visit www.afsinc.org/newgensandconsortium, or contact Steve Robison, AFS senior technical director, at srobison@afsinc.org or 800/537-4237 ext. 227. Concept papers will be continually accepted as funding is available.

Headquartered in Schaumburg, Ill., AFS is a not-for-profit technical and management society that has existed since 1896 to provide and promote knowledge and services that strengthen the metalcasting industry for the ultimate benefit of its customers and society.
