GER - ThyssenKrupp to ramp up Brazilian steel output in spring

Reading time: min

Reuters reported that ThyssenKrupp expects Brazil to grant approval to operate its new plant located in the state of Rio de Janeiro in the Latin American country at full capacity.

A spokesman for ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe said on Monday that “We expect to get the approval in the (European) spring this year.”

The spokesman said the cap at 70% capacity has not had any negative business impact because the plant has just started ramping up its operations.

Brazil had asked ThyssenKrupp to operate the plant at only 70% of capacity after the facility released some dust particles into the air. Brazil also slapped a EUR 1.2 million fine on ThyssenKrupp after the plant released dust particles in the air in August and December.

The plant's first blast furnace came on line last June and the second in December. The plant's maximum output is about 14,600 tonnes of hot metal.
