On the evening of June 28, 2024, there was cause for celebration at the Gesellschaft für Wolfram Industrie: Managing Partners Marion Freifrau von Cetto and Sebastian Freiherr von Cetto accepted the Bavarian SME Award 2024 at Munich's Künstlerhaus on Lenbachplatz.

The award has been presented annually since 2007 to a maximum of ten family-run or owner-managed companies that stand out for their outstanding entrepreneurial commitment in the Bavarian economy. In addition to competitiveness and future viability on the international market, entrepreneurial resilience is one of the main assessment criteria. The only manufacturer of tungsten electrodes in the western hemisphere was recently able to demonstrate this by investing in its new company headquarters in Nußdorf. The planning and construction of the modernized premises for production and administration extended from 2018 to 2023 - and thus right through the economic challenges of the corona pandemic. The jury also assessed the company's commitment to environmental protection and social issues as well as its attractiveness as an employer in the region.

"The Bavarian SME Award is a strong sign of quality and trust and confirms that we are on the right track. The recognition also promotes our internal team spirit and shows our employees that their commitment and hard work are appreciated," says a delighted Sebastian Freiherr von Cetto.

Originally founded in 1911 as Wolfram Drahtfabrik GmbH for the production and processing of tungsten and molybdenum by the grandfather of the current managing partner Marion Freifrau von Cetto in Berlin, the company changed its name to Gesellschaft für Wolfram Industrie mbH in 1928. In 1943, the company headquarters were relocated to Traunstein, where further production buildings were constructed in the mid-1950s. After the death of shareholder Helga Freifrau von Cetto, her daughter Marion Freifrau von Cetto took over the management of the company as owner in 1974. In 1991, Gesellschaft für Wolfram Industrie acquired its competitor Bayerische Metallwerke GmbH in Dachau, which had been active on the market since 1923, thus expanding its product range. Both companies produce exclusively in Germany. In August 2018, the company opened another site, Wolfram Industrie GmbH, in Winterthur, Switzerland, which currently employs five people. In 2023, the headquarters of Wolfram Industrie moved again as part of a modernization and expansion of production capacities and is now located in Nußdorf in Chiemgau. There are currently 43 employees at the Dachau site and 87 in Nußdorf.
