A clear sign of the company's sustainable development is the conversion of a large employee parking lot at MAPAL in Aalen. Three photovoltaic carports, each measuring 74 x 11 meters, have been installed there, producing a total output of 500 kW-peak solar power. This is the largest facility of its kind in the East Württemberg region.
"We have been working for many years to anchor sustainability at MAPAL worldwide," emphasized Dr. Jochen Kress, Managing Partner of the MAPAL Group. "Today, we can inaugurate a result of these efforts. With the new facility, we cover part of our electricity consumption and thus also relieve the supply networks. Together with investments in photovoltaic systems on hall roofs and systems for the ventilation of production units, which save energy, we have invested over four million euros in the sustainability of the Aalen site." An important benefit for the company is also the advantage the photovoltaic parking lot offers employees: both electric cars and e-bikes can be charged here.
The PV car park provides space for a total of 260 cars and 60 bicycles. Currently, 16 parking spaces are equipped with charging facilities, with the potential to increase this to 180. All bicycle parking spaces have sockets. A large part of the parking areas is designed to be permeable to water.
Mayor Frederick Brütting emphasized the importance of the construction project, which makes a significant contribution to the attractiveness of the location and achieving the city's goal of being climate-neutral by 2035.
"This can only succeed if the companies in the city take their energy supply into their own hands and invest in appropriate projects. We are a production location and want to remain so. This is only possible if affordable electricity is available. Therefore, I expressly thank the company MAPAL and the Kress family."
